Congratulations to Jason Resch and Gary Remple for being chosen the 2009 CFR pick-up men. Gary was also recognized with the Cowboy of the Year. A recognition that is very well deserved. 2009 also marked Jason's 3 consecutive year and Gary's 12th year as pick-up men for the Canadian finals Rodeo.

Time flies when you are having fun! With 7000 miles on the speedometer since the 27th of Aug it is nice to have Jason and Jeff back in Alberta. From Kamploop, BC to St. Tite, Quebec it has been an interesting fall. September 7th Jason and Jeff left for the province of Quebec. Every fall they head east to pickup at one of Quebec's largest festivals of the year. Festival Western of St. Tite, Quebec is renowned for there energetic crowds, unbelievable atmospheres, and awesome grand entries! This small town 2.5 hours north east of Montreal attracts thousands and thousands of people throughout the ten day festival. Some of the crazies, noisiest rodeo fans you will ever see pack the roof each rodeo performance. Honored to be a part of the rodeo, Jason and Jeff are known for there unique style and great their livestock handling techniques. "The grand entry was one of the highlights of the trip this year." say Jason. "Each rodeo performance Jeff and I run full tilt into the arena packing flags with fireworks coming out of the top and jumping through lines of fire it was an unbelievable experience." Although it is 48 hours drive across the Canada, St. Tite, Quebec does know how to put on a rodeo. Definitely an experience worth seeing!

Junior Rodeo

Jason and Carrie's son Cooper age 7 hustles his horse home during the barrel racing. His horse Beau is 22 years old and is his best friend. They compete in the barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and team roping every Wednesday night during the North Country Junior Rodeo's.

This year is Cooper's first year to compete in the 6-8 year old

Break-away roping. He is having a blast. After the first rodeo he said he wished that he could rodeo every day!

Not sure that his parents are ready for that just yet!

For Jason and Carrie the rodeo trail consumes alot of their time but every Wednesday for the month of July and Aug they find some time for a new special event. They along with a group of friends helped form the North Country Junior Rodeo Association. A junior rodeo association that if for kids 14 and under. Kids compete in events like barrel racing, pole bending, break-away, goat tying, goat tail untying, team Roping and tie down roping in there respected age divisions. "Every Wednesday night is run just like a regular rodeo, we start with our grand entry and proceed to the rodeo event. Every kids is expected to dress in western attire and we host the same rules as the wrangler/high school rodeo's do. We have over 75 members and we average around 185 entries per rodeo." explains Jason. " It is a great way to get these kids started in rodeo. The improvement that they are making each week is great!"

Rodeo An Eterernity Of Seconds... A new T.V Show making it's debut in the fall of 2009. A behind the scenes look at the stories of the top cowboys/cowgirls making there way to the CFR. Jason and Jeff both had the honour to have the cameras follow them through out the Ponoka Stampede. Mounted with microphones and camera's following close by, Jason and Jeff went to work in the arena. Keep you eyes open for this great new t.v. series that will chronicle the lives of rodeo's professional cowboys and cowgirls. www.birdsofafeathermedia.com/
Not only were Jason and Jeff featured doing what they do best in arena but you will also get to see what our lives are like behind the scenes.

Each pick-up men will haul 4 to 5 horses to each rodeo. A good horse is what usually make a great pick-up man. "Our Horses out in the arena are like our partners. Everything happens so quickly that each horse must be on top of his game. We get banged up a bit so each horse has to be quick, smart and know how to stay safe" explains Jason Resch.
